Gospel of Luke, Chapters 1-4:
Luke 4

1. Jesus then as he was filled with the Holy Spirit left the Jordan [River] and the Spirit fetched him to the wilderness,
2. For forty days, to experience the Devil*. And [since] he did not chew on anything for those [number] of days, and as he completed [the fast,] he was finally hungry.

3. And the Devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."
4. Jesus replied and told him, "It is written that it is not by bread alone a human being lives, except by whatever God decides."

5. And the Devil ascended a high mountain, and showed [Jesus] all the kingdoms of the earth in a moment of time,
6. And the Devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority and its glory that adheres to me and which I give to whomever I please.
7. "If you thus worship me, yours will all this be."
8. Jesus replied and told him, "It is written that you shall worship your Lord God, and for Him alone you shall work."

9. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood [with] him on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself from here down.
10. "For it is written that His angels will emerge to protect you.
11. "And they will lift you on their arms, so that your foot shall not [even] touch the stone."
12. Jesus replied and told him, "Said He that you shall not tempt your Lord God."
13. And as the Devil concluded all his temptations, he escaped from Jesus for an age.

*4:2 Lit. Ar. id.: "Adversary."
From the Aramaic translation, Jesus was "fetched" into the wilderness. "Driven" into the wilderness? Greek would indicate not, but then again, it wouldn't have been a fun place to be "led" to. Of course it's curious to see the brilliant choices he made in the face of temptation, away from the temporal messiah everybody wanted.
