You are Drama.
You are extroverted and like to show off, but can
be very subtle and intelligent when you want.
As an expert at story-telling, you love
attention and have developed the skill of
keeping it.
You get along well with Literature and Film.

Tate Modern | The Unilever Series: Olafur Eliasson:Greenland words for snowChecked the urban legend department and found the precise words in Language/eskimo words for snow derby. posted by TT 11:42 AM
Greenland residents have around fifty different words for snow, from ‘nittaalaq’ (air thick with snow) to ‘aput’ (snow on the ground).
Tate Modern | The Unilever Series: Olafur Eliasson:Definition of drizzleThat would be slightly larger than 1/64". posted by TT 10:33 AM
Drizzle is defined as liquid precipitation in the form of drops with a diameter of less than half a millimetre.
Tate Modern | The Unilever Series: Olafur Eliasson has weather stories. The Toph writes, submits and forgets about a recent walk, in case the beleaguered reader wonders whether TTT produces any original material whatsoever. What was the story?
Midmorning on the 7th of January, Ranger, the pit bull and the Toph went out for the daily morning walk near the hospital in Moss Beach. They parked at the former nursery school and walked up the hill heading northeast in a brisk wind from the southeast. Weather conditions worsened and it started to drizzle. Also, the situation was complicated somewhat by yapping dogs heard in the distance, possibly walking on the loose on the trails, which could be very dangerous if they come right up to Ranger on his leash, so the walk became an evasive maneuver. As it was, the wind and rain was behind the Toph, and Ranger was just happy to be out sniffing at everything. On top of the hill, there was a view of the Montara Mountains and the storm passing through. Bursts of rain at 30 degrees to the ground over a vast coastal terrace whipped by, right to left, sweeping across miles of peninsula. Unforgettable.
The walk continued to the next rise, and the wind and rain didn't let up, so turning back seemed like a good idea. Yapping dogs were heard, but still not seen, so Toph led the way back, this time facing the wind and rain. There was nothing to see except the next few steps ahead in the swirling mist and beads of water collecting on Toph's glasses. The trek was quite dramatic at the last blind hill with the little dogs still yapping, but Toph and Ranger took the shortest path down the hill through the last field to the nursery school. As it was finally obvious the little dogs were not going be a problem, Toph noticed the wind died and the pelting light rain stopped. What a missed opportunity to head toward the mountain instead of cutting the walk short.

Rambling with Resnick:We quickly learned Winogrand's technique--he walked slowly or stood in the middle of pedestrian traffic as people went by. He shot prolifically. I watched him walk a short block and shoot an entire roll without breaking stride. As he reloaded, I asked him if he felt bad about missing pictures when he reloaded. "No," he replied, "there are no pictures when I reload." He was constantly looking around, and often would see a situation on the other side of a busy intersection. Ignoring traffic, he would run across the street to get the picture.posted by TT 9:08 AM
Incredibly, people didn't react when he photographed them. It surprised me because Winogrand made no effort to hide the fact that he was standing in way, taking their pictures. Very few really noticed; no one seemed annoyed. Winogrand was caught up with the energy of his subjects, and was constantly smiling or nodding at people as he shot. It was as if his camera was secondary and his main purpose was to communicate and make quick but personal contact with people as they walked by. At the same time, as he passed from shadow into sunlight into shadow again, he was constantly adjusting his meterless camera. It was second nature to him. In fact, his first comment right out the door was, "nice light--1/250 second at f/8."

Rambling with Resnick:I tried to mimic Winogrand's shooting technique. I went up to people, took their pictures, smiled, nodded, just like the master. Nobody complained; a few smiled back! I tried shooting without looking through the viewfinder, but when Winogrand saw this, he sternly told me never to shoot without looking. "You'll lose control over your framing," he warned. I couldn't believe he had time to look in his viewfinder, and watched him closely. Indeed, Winogrand always looked in the viewfinder at the moment he shot. It was only for a split second, but I could see him adjust his camera's position slightly and focus before he pressed the shutter release. He was precise, fast, in control.posted by TT 10:24 AM—Mason Resnick, Coffee and Workprints: A Workshop With Garry Winogrand

Lots of wise men in art: Magi
Adoration of the Magi (Getty Museum):Three kings pay homage to the Christ Child, who in turn makes a sign of blessing. Jesus Christ, his mother the Virgin Mary, and Mary's husband Joseph have haloes and wear simple garments, while the Magi are dressed in exotic clothing and jewels and bear exquisite gifts. Caspar, bearded and bareheaded, presents the Christ Child with a rare Chinese cup, made of delicate porcelain and filled with gold coins. Melchior, the younger, bearded king behind Caspar, holds a Turkish censer for perfuming the air with incense; on the right, Balthasar the Moor carries a covered cup made of agate.posted by TT 7:06 PM
